Brambles and Barbed wire!

Back into it this weekend - no pics sorry, nothing that new to look at.

Anyway continued to rebuild the path using the cinders from my latest dig, I think I’m about half way in terms of making the whole strip passable now.

Only actually cleared about 1 panel, but did about 4 panels of brambles. I got to thinking as I was clearing brambles. Am I actually making this job harder and taking away some of the already established wild plants unnecessarily.

It was only when I saw the nettles coming through and growing much more vigorously now the brambles have been cut back that I thought about a new plan. From now on I’m going to tidy up more than dig new ground and seed with flowers in pockets as I go, although the brambles provide food for birds in the winter, the amount of litter they capture is enormous so I’m going to still cut the brambles back and perhaps tend them so they can grow in a more controlled way, let’s face it, free fruit can’t be bad.

I’ve also got a theory that relates to the brambles catching all the rubbish. A lot of rubbish gets blown through and catches in the brambles, this then looks like people are just chucking rubbish about and almost makes it acceptable for people to litter some more. The reason I say this is that there’s been a noticeable difference in the amount of litter actually dropped along the path that’s been tidied, the only difference I can see is that it’s already clear of litter.

So there you go, I’ll do some photos next week as there is quite a lot of growing going on.
